Check out the resources below to start hosting "Catholic Family Story Hours" with activities at your parish using wonderful Catholic Books! This is a new section on my website that I will be updating.
The Tiny Seed a Parable written by Katie Warner and illustrated by Meg Whalen
Story Hour Game Plan:
Read the book aloud
Plant the Seed Station: Plant mustard seeds in paper cups—write a scripture verse about faith the size of a mustard seed on the cup (or use a sticker label), and have a few quotes from the book about planting the mustard seed on the table for kids to read.
Dig deeper Station: Have a graphic organizer with a seed at the bottom—Write your name or draw your face on the seed. Label branches for each week of Lent. On each leaf, write or draw ways you can grow in your faith each week of Lent.
Take Home Station: Recipe and Prayer- Give families a recipe for how to make homemade mustard from mustard seeds. Tell families they can enjoy their mustard throughout Lent to help them remember to keep growing in their faith. Also give families a family prayer: Come Holy Spirit! Fill our family with the grace of faith, that our hearts may burn with a love for the Most Holy Trinity. Come Holy Spirit! Nurture the seed of faith within us, that we may grow in our love of the Lord throughout this Lenten season and all the days of our lives. Amen.
